Midday track work on the Red Line to replace rail ties


Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As part of Metro's ongoing effort to improve service reliability and bring the Red Line into a state of good repair, crews will perform targeted track work on segments of the line where Metro has identified rail ties that are in need of replacement. The work will take place during weekday midday hours over the next two weeks—Oct. 3 through 7 and Oct. 11 through 14.

Customers should note the following service impacts:

Red Line – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 7

  • Red Line trains will single track between New York Ave. and Rhode Island Ave.
  • Every other Red Line train traveling in the direction of Silver Spring will terminate at New York Ave. and return to Shady Grove.
  • Customers traveling between Glenmont and New York Avenue add an additional 10 minutes of travel time.

Red Line – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 to Friday, Oct. 14

  • Red Line trains will single track between Rhode Island Ave. and Fort Totten.
  • Every other Red Line train traveling in the direction of Silver Spring will terminate at New York Ave. and return to Shady Grove.
  • Customers traveling between Glenmont and New York Avenue add an additional 10 minutes of travel time.
