Metro, in conjunction with the Conference of Minority of Transportation Officials and Easter Seals PROJECT ACTION, yesterday honored the late Dr. Rosalyn M. Simon, a former Metro employee and internationally renowned ADA expert, with a service award in her name recognizing industry professionals.

“Dr. Rosalyn Simon dedicated her life to the empowerment of people with disabilities, and she was a recognized leader, educator, and friend to the disability community,” said Metro Board of Directors Chair Catherine Hudgins. “In recognition of her many contributions to the public transit industry, Metro has established a special award that will honor those who have followed Dr. Simon’s example in serving with distinction and promoting the accessibility of Metro to the Washington metropolitan area.”

During a special ceremony at its headquarters, Metro also dedicated the agency’s Transit Accessibility Center to her memory. On behalf of Metro, Christian T. Kent, Metro’s Assistant General Manager for Access Services, presented the first Dr. Rosalyn M. Simon Award to Ms. Monica Simon, the daughter of the late Dr. Simon.

“Dr. Simon was a friend, mentor, and an inspiration to many in the field of transportation, and her renowned expertise enabled the transportation industry to provide safe, accessible, and quality transportation to people with disabilities,” said Mr. Kent.
