Due to the loss of commercial power (Pepco) to two traction power substations along the Orange and Blue lines, customers on these lines may experience delays and crowding conditions during the morning commute of Wednesday, October 26.

The substations, located near Deanwood and Stadium-Armory, provide power to the 3rd rail that use trains to operate. Metro is currently "backfeeding" power to this section of system from other substations.

The following steps are necessary to allow trains to operate during this condition:

  • All trains will operate at reduced speeds between Potomac Avenue and Cheverly/Benning Road, resulting in increased travel time and longer waits for trains.
  • No 8-car trains will operate this morning on the Orange Line.

As of 6:40 a.m., Pepco could not provide an estimated time of repair. Additional updates will follow.
