Bus schedule change on selected routes effective Sunday, December 18

Service adjustments reflect changes in traffic conditions and customer demand

Metro will make adjustments to bus service in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia beginning on Sunday, December 18, as a result of a comprehensive plan to improve service reliability, reflect current traffic conditions, and provide additional service to relieve crowding and support customer requests for improved connections.

District of Columbia Highlights

Metro will introduce new Saturday service on the U2 route (Minnesota Ave-Anacostia Line) to improve crosstown connections. Trips will leave both ends of the line every 30 minutes from 6:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., with an additional southbound trip leaving Minnesota Avenue Station at 6:15 a.m.

To reduce crowding on the D6 route (Sibley Hospital-Stadium-Armory Line) a new weekday trip will depart Stadium-Armory at 8 a.m. en route to P and 22nd Sts. NW. Trips currently departing Stadium-Amory at 7:55, 8:05 and 8:15 a.m., will be changed to leave at 7:52, 8:08 and 8:16 a.m. Additionally, at Stadium-Armory Station, the D6 stop will be changed from bus bay E to bus bay G for improved traffic flow.

To reflecting current traffic patterns during the afternoon rush hour, buses on the 94 route (Stanton Road Line) will operate every 12 minutes instead of every 11 minutes. Select off-peak trips will be adjusted by a few minutes to provide better connections to Green Line trains.

Other service changes include minor adjustments to the 32, 36, 96, 97, A2, A42, B2, D8, W2 and X8 routes.

Suburban Maryland Highlights

On the Y5, Y7, Y8 and Y9 routes (Georgia Ave-Maryland Line), service will be provided to the new park-and-ride lot at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and the Intercounty Connector (ICC) in place of service to the Norbeck park-and-ride lot on Norbeck Rd., east of Georgia Ave. This change will allow for transfers to new MTA bus service (Routes 201 and 202) that uses the ICC. Additionally, weekday running time adjustments will be made to all “Y” routes to reflect current traffic conditions.

Other service changes include minor adjustments to the A12, B22, C28, H12, H13 and K12.

Northern Virginia Highlights

As a result of a Service Evaluation Study recommendations, Metro will implement new weekday and weekend running times on the 23A and 23C routes (McLean-Crystal City Line) to reflect increased passenger demand and traffic congestion.

Metro will implement new weekday travel times on the 25A and 25E routes (Ballston-Bradlee-Pentagon Line). On the 25A, new afternoon peak running times will address increased traffic congestion along the line. On the 25E, westbound trips will depart the Pentagon between 8:43 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., and eastbound trips will depart Ballston Station between 9:40 a.m. and 2:38 p.m. These trips will bypass Shirlington and serve the Parkfairfax area including Gunston Rd., Valley Dr., Martha Custis Dr., and Preston Rd.
