Metro track work planner for week of January 17-20

Metro will advance rebuilding efforts during off-peak hours January 17 through 20, 2012.

Red Line

  • Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights for rail renewal. Expect minor delays (up to 10 minutes).
  • Tuesday through Thursday beginning at 10 p.m. each night, trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center for rail fastener renewal, and between New York Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue for DDOT bridge work.  Expect 15 minute delays in both directions.

Orange Line

  • Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, trains will single track between Clarendon and Ballston for rail and fastener renewal.  Expect minor delays.
  • Tuesday through Thursday beginning at 10 p.m. each night, trains will single track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church for testing related to the Dulles rail project, and between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for platform rehabilitation work.  Expect delays up to 15 minutes.

Blue Line

  • Tuesday through Thursday beginning at 10 p.m. each night, trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for platform rehabilitation work.  Expect delays up to 15 minutes.

Metro is advancing a six-year, $5 billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that is focused on safety and bringing the Metro system into a state of good repair. In FY2012, the CIP includes projects to replace escalators; retrofit track; replace critical track circuitry and equipment along the right of way; rehabilitate third-rail power systems, running rail and track pads; modernize 12 stations; replace 100 Metrobuses and the rehabilitate 100 more; renovate three bus garages; and install 30 new track turnouts.
