Metro to hold public meeting for Metrobus Y Line Study

Project team to discuss preliminary recommendations, request feedback

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), in partnership with Montgomery County and the Maryland Department of Transportation, will host the second of two public meetings as part of the Metrobus Y Line Study on Thursday, March 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The meeting will take place at Hughes United Methodist Church, 10700 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.

At this public meeting, project team members will share draft recommendations for improvements to Metrobus routes Y5, Y7, Y8 and Y9, and to transit services on Georgia Avenue in general. The meeting is open to all, and no registration is required.

Upon arriving at the public meeting, participants can review the recommendations and speak individually with the project team. The meeting will be “open house” style, meaning that participants may arrive any time between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. No presentation will be given; instead, the meeting is intended to start a dialogue between Metro and riders about improvements to the Y Line.

The first public meeting for the Y Line study was held in mid-2011. Participants provided input on challenges facing transit services along Georgia Avenue. The project team reviewed the input, analyzed the data and developed the draft recommendations. The recommendations will be presented to the public and the Metro Board.

The Metrobus Y Line runs mainly along Georgia Avenue between Montgomery General Hospital and Silver Spring. The Y Line currently has around 7,500 passengers on an average weekday, one of the largest riderships in Maryland.

Spanish translators and visual materials in Spanish will be available.
