Metro weekday track work planner for March 19-23, 2012

Metro will advance rebuilding efforts during off-peak hours Monday, March 19, through Friday, March 23, 2012.  Due to the early arrival of peak bloom of the cherry blossoms, scheduled track work has been modified to minimize customer delays.  This is the final week of midday track work prior to Metro’s “spring break.”

Red Line

  • Monday through Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m. each night, Red Line trains will single track between Van Ness and Medical Center for NTSB-recommended track circuit module replacement and between New York Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue to allow for DDOT bridge repairs. Trains will operate every 30-35 minutes. Customers should allow 15 minutes of additional travel time.

Orange Line

  • Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, Orange Line trains will single track between Vienna and West Falls Church to allow for rail fastener, tie and insulator renewal. Customers should expect minor delays.
  • Monday through Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m. each night, Orange Line trains will single track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church to allow for testing associated with the Dulles rail extension, and between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for platform rehabilitation and repairs to the aerial track. Customers should allow 10 minutes of additional travel time.

Blue Line

  • Monday through Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m. each night, Orange Line trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for platform rehabilitation and repairs to the aerial track. Customers should allow 10 minutes of additional travel time.

Green Line

  • Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, trains will single track between College Park and Greenbelt for rail, fastener, tie and insulator renewal. Customers should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time.

Yellow Line

  • No scheduled work.

Metro is advancing a six-year, $5 billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that is focused on safety and bringing the Metro system into a state of good repair. In FY2012, the CIP includes projects to replace escalators; retrofit track; replace critical track circuitry and equipment along the right of way; rehabilitate third-rail power systems, running rail and track pads; modernize 12 stations; replace 100 Metrobuses and the rehabilitate 100 more; renovate three bus garages; and install 30 new track turnouts.
