Music on the Mall pre-launch June performances begin Tuesday

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the National Park Service, in conjunction with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, today announced the pre-launch of Music on the Mall Tuesday, June 12, 2012 with violinist Clarice Labbe, a national recording artist, performing from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. near the Smithsonian Metrorail station. Other pre-launch performers will be trumpet player Freddie Dunn on June 19th, and rock band Rosie likes Red on June 26th. Leaflets announcing the July launch will be handed out on Tuesdays in June as Ms. Labbe and the other pre-launch musicians perform.

Music on the Mall will bring local and regional musicians – from single artists to string quartets -- to the National Mall during lunchtime beginning in July, when musicians will perform from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Music on the Mall seeks to enliven the National Mall and make it a destination for the public and private sector workers who have offices nearby and for tourists.
