Navy Yard Station to close early on Saturday, June 23, for security drill


Shuttle bus service provided between Navy Yard & Waterfront; Half Street entrance closes at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday until 12:30 p.m. Sunday

Navy Yard Metrorail Station on the Green Line will close five hours early—at 10 p.m.—on Saturday, June 23, and the Half Street entrance will be closed at various times throughout the weekend as Metro Transit Police, in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Metropolitan Police and other law-enforcement partners, conduct a security drill at the station.

Green Line service will continue to operate normally through the Navy Yard Station at all times.

Customers in the area of the station may notice street closures, as well as a large presence of emergency vehicles and law enforcement personnel. Please be assured that this is only a drill.

Service information Navy Yard customers

  • Navy Yard Station will close at 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Regular weekend rail service will be unaffected, with trains passing through, but not servicing, the Navy Yard station after 10 p.m.
  • After 10 p.m. Saturday, Metro will operate free shuttle bus service between Navy Yard and Waterfront stations for affected customers. Customers using shuttle bus service should allow 15 minutes of additional travel time.
  • The station will reopen at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, June 24

Navy Yard entrance closures

  • The station's Half Street entrance will close at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. (station closing), all customers will be directed to enter and exit via the New Jersey Avenue entrance.
  • On Sunday, June 24, the Half Street entrance will remain closed until approximately 12:30 p.m. Customers will be directed to use the station’s New Jersey Avenue entrance between 7 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The drill will conclude around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
