Customers permitted to consume water on Metro Wednesday & Thursday due to extreme temperatures

Due the extreme heat, Metro will allow customers to carry and consume water on the system on Wednesday, June 20, and Thursday, June 21, 2012. The exception to Metro's "no drinking" policy applies to water only — on buses, in stations and aboard trains — and will remain in effect through system closing on Thursday night.

Customers are encouraged to use containers that can be tightly secured and to use trash receptacles to dispose of any waste.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday for the entire Washington DC Metropolitan Area. The heat index Wednesday is expected to be between 100 to 105 and the temperature is expected to be in the mid-to-upper 90s.
