Blue and Orange line service delayed due to unscheduled track work

As of 6:30 a.m., Blue and Orange Line service is experiencing delays of 20-30 minutes in both directions due to unscheduled track work between Eastern Market and New Carrollton.

During the overnight hours, a routine track inspection process identified several locations between Eastern Market and New Carrollton requiring adjustment or repair, and unscheduled track work was initiated.  As of 6:30 a.m., personnel remain along the tracks working to complete repairs.

Until personnel have completed their work, Blue and Orange line trains are operating as follows:

  • Orange Line trains are single tracking between Eastern Market and New Carrollton with delays up to 30 minutes. Some trains are turning back to Vienna at Federal Center SW or Eastern Market.
  • Blue Line trains are single tracking between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory with delays up to 20 minutes.  Some trains are turning back to Franconia-Springfield at Federal Center SW or Eastern Market.

Customers should allow additional travel time during the morning commute.  Blue Line customers in Virginia should consider using the Yellow Line as an alternate.
