Third annual Military Open House scheduled for Nov. 19

Metro will host its third annual Military Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, to actively recruit retired, former and transitioning military service members for employment at the transit agency.

This exclusive event offers members of the military the opportunity to learn about the vast career opportunities Metro has to offer, network with military and former military Metro employees, and meet with hiring department managers. A number of same day interviews and job offers may occur.

“Metro recognizes the discipline, unique training, skills and leadership qualities that the US armed forces provide, and we look for candidates with these types of skills to fill our workforce,” said Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles. “We want to reach out to the military community and encourage veterans to take a look at Metro as they transition back into civilian life.”

Metro is seeking hundreds of candidates to fill positions including engineers, project managers, police officers, bus operators, electrical technicians, vehicle mechanics and information technology professionals.

At last year’s Military Open House, nearly 350 service persons and veterans attended and interacted with Metro Military Ambassadors, Hiring Department Representatives and Human Resources staff. During the event, 53 candidates were tested for bus operator and front-line positions. Eleven candidates were interviewed on the spot for various other positions, and more than 150 were invited for interviews and testing over the following week. In addition, Metro Transit Police identified more than 80 candidates for the department’s extensive screening and testing process.

The open house will be held at the National Building Museum, located at 401 F Street NW, Washington, DC. The National Building Museum is across the street from Metro’s Judiciary Square Station and two blocks east of Gallery Place Station.

Veterans interested in attending the open house must register online at wmata.com/military by Thursday, Nov. 15.
