Orange Line service restored at Ballston

UPDATE 3:27 p.m. -- Metro has restored normal two-track operations between East Falls Church and Virginia Square.  Customers should expect minor residual delays for about the next half hour.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m. -- Metro is in the process of restoring Orange Line service between East Falls Church and Virginia Square.  Trains are single tracking between the two stations while the police investigation and clean up operation continues at Ballston.  Customers should expect delays in both directions.  Shuttle buses are being cancelled.

UPDATE 2:00 p.m. -- The Virginia State Medical Examiner is on the scene at Ballston.  Once the Medical Examiner completes her investigation, the body will be removed and clean-up will commence.  There currently no estimate on when normal service will be restored.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m. -- Service remains suspended between Virginia Square and East Falls Church.  Personnel are awaiting the arrival of the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office.

UPDATE 11:54 a.m. -- Suspension is now between Virginia Square and East Falls Church.

Orange Line service is disrupted between Virginia Square and East Falls Church due to a person struck by train at Ballston Station.  The female appears to have intentionally placed herself in the path of an arriving inbound Orange Line train.  Rescue personnel are on the scene at this time.  

For the protection of rescue workers, it is necessary to temporarily suspend service between Virginia Square and East Falls Church.  Metrobus is sending shuttle buses for affected customers; it may take up to 30 minutes to have sufficient buses in position.

Customers on the Orange Line are encouraged to check wmata.com/alerts for updated information and to allow additional travel time until further notice.
