Transit Police seek public assistance in locating suspect wanted for auto theft

Metro Transit Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect wanted in an auto theft this morning.

The incident started at approximately 7:10 a.m. today at Addison Road Station where the suspect stole a vehicle.

Metro Transit Police were able to track the vehicle to the parking lot of a shopping center on Van Dorn Street in Alexandria. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle, abandoning it on a ramp leading to the Capital Beltway from Van Dorn Street.

The suspect fled on foot. Metro Transit Police, Alexandria Police, Fairfax County Police and Virginia State Police are tracking the suspect at this time.

The suspect is described as a black male, mid-to-late 40s, 5'5", 170 lbs, bald head, facial hair, glasses, black jeans, black t-shirt, possibly wearing a canvas jacket.  The suspect is also described as having a "growth" on the side of his neck similar to an Adam's apple.
