Metro Transit Police announce arrest in earlier auto theft

Metro Transit Police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with a vehicle theft this morning at Addison Road Station.

The suspect, Isom Cooper, age 49, was taken into custody this afternoon by Fairfax County Police at a hotel on Van Dorn Street near the Capital Beltway. Cooper was interviewed by Fairfax County Police and Metro Transit Police detectives and subsequently arrested in connection with the theft of auto. Other charges may be pending.

The incident started at approximately 7:10 a.m. today at Addison Road Station where the suspect allegedly stole a Pontiac and drove it across the Wilson Bridge into Virginia. Metro Transit Police were able to track the vehicle to the parking lot of a shopping center on Van Dorn Street in Kingstowne, Va. When Transit Police approached, the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle, abandoning it on a ramp leading to the Capital Beltway from Van Dorn Street. A multi-hour, multi-agency search followed.

Metro Transit Police expressed appreciation for the support of Fairfax County Police, Alexandria Police and Virginia State Police. The partner law enforcement agencies provided officers, K9 units and helicopter support during the investigation.
