Public artwork installed at Farragut North Metro station

‘Pulse’ illuminates station entrance

Metro’s Farragut North Metro station is home to a new piece of artwork. “Pulse,” the creation of artist Jefre Manuel, is a wall-mounted sculpture constructed of acrylic resin tile located at the station entrance at Connecticut Avenue and K Street, NW.

The Golden Triangle BID and DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities funded the artwork, and worked with the Metro Art in Transit Program to have the project installed at Farragut North.

“The Golden Triangle BID is pleased to once again work with DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and Metro,” said Leona Agouridis, BID Executive Director. “The two donated light art projects activate and enliven Farragut Square for the thousands of neighborhood workers and visitors.”

"It has been a pleasure working with WMATA and the Golden Triangle BID to install the artwork, 'Pulse' at the Farragut North Metro station,” said Lionel Thomas, D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities Executive Director. “Partnerships like this provide District residents and visitors with the unique privilege of engaging with great works of art daily."

The design is inspired by Admiral Farragut’s service in the U.S. Navy and battle on the Mississippi River. The project brings color, light and dimension to Farragut North, one of Metro’s busiest downtown stations serving roughly 23,000 riders each weekday.

“Public art at Metro stations is all about celebrating the spirit and aspirations of communities,” said Michael Mc Bride, Metro’s Art in Transit Program Manager. “'Pulse,' with its use of modern materials and light media, embodies the creativity and vitality of one of the city’s premier business districts.”

Metro’s Art in Transit Program installs artwork throughout the Metrorail system to enhance the travel experience of Metro customers, and works with artists, community groups, government agencies and businesses to select and install artwork that captures the spirit and vitality of the region.
