Metro welcomes TPB Commute Share Study demonstrating importance of transit system to region

Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles today issued the following statement regarding the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board’s (TPB) Commute Share Study:

“We welcome TPB’s leadership in providing important trend information vital to the region’s economy. The study’s findings underscore the increasing reliance on transit in the region and the need to plan for the future. Growth in transit mode share has been consistent for more than a decade and Metro’s Momentum strategic plan anticipates the trend continuing. As such, we remain committed to meeting the region’s future needs by rebuilding the system to improve safety and reliability, increasing capacity with longer trains and bus-only lanes, investing in stations to handle increasing demand, and implementing state-of-the-art fare technology and passenger communication systems.”

The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the region.
