Metrorail to provide extra hour of service Sunday night for Delta Sigma Theta Centennial

Mt Vernon Sq/Convention Center & Gallery Place stations to remain open until 12:50 a.m.

Metrorail will stay open late an extra hour on Sunday, July 14, to accommodate guests returning from Delta Sigma Theta centennial events at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and Verizon Center.

Riders taking advantage of the extra hour of service should enter at Gallery Place or Mt Vernon Sq/Convention Center stations no later than 12:50 a.m. to ensure that they make the last trains.

Entrances at all other Metrorail stations will close at their normal times, but riders will be able to exit at all stations during the additional hour of service.

Metro reminds Delta Sigma Theta attendees to be aware of scheduled rebuilding work this weekend on the Red Line.  Starting at 10 p.m., free shuttle buses will replace trains between NoMa-Gallaudet and Silver Spring stations, and three stations -- Rhode Island Ave, Brookland and Takoma -- will be closed.

Service on the Green and Yellow lines, which serve both the Convention Center and Verizon Center, will operate normally throughout the weekend, with no scheduled track work. Riders along the eastern leg of the Red Line may wish to consider using Green or Yellow line service as an alternate route between Fort Totten and Downtown DC.

The extended Metrorail service is funded by an agreement with Washington Convention and Sports Authority.
