Weekend service adjustments August 2-4 due to rebuilding

Ceiling Tile Replacement

Metro's multi-year rebuilding effort will continue over the weekend of August 2-4 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

Service on the Yellow and Green lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule. On the Red Line, trains will operate every 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the station; and buses will replace trains on a short segment of the Blue and Orange lines.

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.

Red Line Red Line  10 p.m. Fri., Aug. 2 through closing Sun., Aug. 4

  • Additional trains between Shady Grove & Farragut North: Service every 10 minutes 9AM-9PM
  • Additional trains between Glenmont & Judiciary Square: Service every 10 minutes 9AM-9PM

Work Performed: Crews will continue station improvements at Farragut North, including installation of new ceiling tiles, lighting, closed-circuit cameras and communication equipment.

Travel Tips

  • If connecting between the western side of the Red Line and the Blue/Orange lines, consider trying Farragut Crossing.  When using a SmarTrip card, you can transfer for free by walking between Farragut North and Farragut West stations.
  • If connecting between the eastern side of the Red Line and the Green or Yellow lines, consider making the transfer at Fort Totten, rather than Gallery Place.
  • If traveling to Verizon Center from the eastern side of the Red Line, use Judiciary Square rather than Gallery Place.
  • Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders, especially those along Wisconsin or Connecticut avenues.  To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.
