SmarTrip® goes back to school

Metro visits area campuses to promote SmarTrip® cards to students

Metro representatives will visit several local college campuses over the next two weeks to encourage new and returning students to buy one of the essentials of college life in this region: a SmarTrip® card.

“Cost savings and convenience are especially important to students, and having a SmarTrip® card gives students in our transportation network the benefit of both as they use the Metro system,” said Lynn Bowersox, Metro's Assistant General Manager for Customer Service, Communications and Marketing.

Using a SmarTrip® card saves students $1 on each Metrorail trip and 20 cents on each Metrobus trip. It also gives students free bus-to-bus transfers and a 50-cent discount when transferring between bus and rail.

SmarTrip® is faster, safer and more convenient than paying with cash or using a paper farecard. The plastic reloadable SmarTrip® cards can be registered online to protect the balance in the event the card is lost or stolen. Registering the card also gives students the ability to go online to add more value.
