Weekend service adjustments December 13-15 to allow for rebuilding

The release below has been updated to reflect normal Green Line service. Previously announced work affecting Greenbelt Station has been cancelled.

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of December 13-15, with service adjustments on the Red, Orange and Blue lines beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night.

Trains on the Yellow and Green lines will operate at regular weekend intervals.

On the Red Line, trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont and every 10 minutes during daytime hours between Grosvenor and Silver Spring. Orange and Blue Line trains will operate every 20 minutes as crews perform necessary bridge repair work. Green Line service will be normal between Branch Ave and College Park; however, riders traveling to or from Greenbelt should add time on Saturday and Sunday only (details below).

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
