Metrorail to operate free of most track work for weekend of December 21-22
Only Greenbelt Station affected by service changes
The Metrorail system will be largely free of construction work for the weekend before Christmas. Trains on the Red, Orange, Blue, and Yellow lines will operate at regular weekend intervals. Only one station on the Green Line, Greenbelt, will closed on Saturday and Sunday only; all other Green Line stations will have normal service.
Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.

Buses replace trains at Greenbelt Station only
NOTE: Green Line service will operate normally on Friday night. Greenbelt Station will be open during this time.
Green Line trains will operate at normal weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave throughout the weekend. Normal intervals are every 12-20 minutes.
Free shuttle buses will replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt and College Park. Riders using shuttle bus service should allow about 15 minutes of travel time.
Station Closed: Greenbelt
Work Performed: Continued construction of a new test track located between College Park and Greenbelt to accept Metro's new fleet of 7000-series railcars.
Travel Tips
- Riders who normally use Greenbelt Station may wish to consider College Park (Green Line) or New Carrollton (Orange Line) as alternates this weekend.
- Passengers using Metrobus B30 service to Baltimore-Washington International/Thurgood Marshall Airport should arrive College Park Station 30 minutes prior to the B30 departure time at Greenbelt to allow for rail shuttle bus connections.
- Weekend MARC commuter rail service is available from BWI to Union Station, where passengers can transfer to the Red Line. MARC service requires a separate fare. Visit mta.maryland.gov/marc-train for schedule information.
