Metro updates major track work calendar

Riders and event planners encouraged to use as planning tool

Metro has updated its major track work calendar through the end of June 2014.

The calendar — available at wmata.com/trackwork — shows the date, affected stations, busing plan and a description of the work to be performed.

"I encourage our customers, event planners, community groups and other stakeholders to check the calendar for advance notice of the major projects we plan to undertake in order to minimize their inconvenience over the next six months," said Richard Sarles, Metro General Manager & Chief Executive Officer. "The work we do on weekends – when ridership is light – is essential for improving the safety and reliability of the system throughout the rest of the week.”

Metro is about halfway through a six-year $5 billion capital improvement program to improve the safety and reliability of the system. The investment to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.

For detailed information about weekend work, riders are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts email and text messages at wmata.com/metroalerts.
