Metro Accessibility Advisory Committee seeking new members

Volunteers serve as voice for riders with disabilities, senior citizens

Metro’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is looking for riders with disabilities and senior citizens interested in joining the group.

The AAC consists of 20 volunteers committed to helping Metro enhance the travel experience of people with disabilities and senior citizens on Metrobus, Metrorail, and MetroAccess. Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia are each represented by six members, and there are two additional members who serve at-large.

Positions are available for residents of the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Fairfax City, City of Falls Church, and the City of Alexandria.

To qualify, prospective members must be riders of Metrobus, Metrorail, and/or MetroAccess. Members of the AAC cannot be Metro employees, contractors, or elected officials. All AAC positions are unpaid volunteer positions.

Metro’s Board of Directors will make the final selection of candidates from a collection of candidates who represent a cross-section of customers with disabilities and senior citizens, and reflect a broad representation of people from different geographical locations in Metro’s service area.

Applicants are advised that positions are limited and not all applicants will be selected. However, applications will be retained for two years from the date submitted for future consideration, and previous applicants of the 2012/2013 membership recruitment will be considered.

Applications can be found online at:

Interested candidates also may call Metro’s Department of Access Services, Office of ADA Policy and Planning at 202-962-1100 to request an application form.
