Metrorail to open two hours early on Saturday, March 15

Rail system to open at 5 a.m. for marathon

Metrorail will open two hours early — at 5 a.m. -- on Saturday, March 15, for the benefit of riders traveling to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.  Marathon runners should use Federal Triangle (Blue/Orange), Smithsonian (Blue/Orange) or Archives (Green/Yellow) stations to access the start line.

The additional two hours of service is funded by the event sponsors.

Travel Tips

  • Due to planned rebuilding work, riders are encouraged to use stations other than Franconia-Springfield or Greenbelt.  For Franconia-Springfield, use Huntington or Van Dorn St as alternates.  For Greenbelt, use College Park or New Carrollton as alternates.
  • Race participants are encouraged to use a SmarTrip card or a plastic cover to protect paper farecards. Paper farecards exposed to moisture may not work.
  • To avoid lines at the end of the event, be sure your SmarTrip or paper farecard is loaded with enough value for your return trip. Customers using paper fare cards are reminded to add an additional $1 per trip ($2 additional per roundtrip).
  • The marathon is expected to have a significant impact on Metrobus operations.  Bus customers should allow additional travel time until the race is completed.  For additional details, please see the service advisory.
