Metrorail weekend service adjustments May 16-18 to allow for rebuilding

UPDATE: The previously scheduled service adjustment affecting Greenbelt Station has been cancelled. As a result, Green Line trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule at all stations throughout the weekend.

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of May 16-18 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

All stations will be open this weekend.  Trains on the Blue and Yellow Lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule. Green Line trains will operate regular weekend service except at Greenbelt Station on Saturday (see below). Orange Line trains will run every 24 minutes. Red Line trains will run every 18 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with additional trains between Van Ness and Judiciary Square during daytime hours.

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
