Metro Selects Developer for Navy Yard Chiller Site

Transit-oriented development would add condominiums, retail space near Nationals Park

Metro has selected a venture of MRP Realty and CAS Riegler Companies as developer for its 14,100-square-foot site at Half and L streets, SE, one block from the Navy Yard Metro Station. This developer selection is the first project award since Metro’s release of the November 2013 Joint Development Solicitation.

The developer is proposing to build 126 condominium units and 6,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.  The site currently houses Metro’s chiller plant that cools the air within Navy Yard and Waterfront stations.  The developer plans to integrate the chiller facility into its building and will use temporary chilling equipment to keep the stations comfortable during construction.

The development agreement is subject to final approval by Metro’s Board of Directors. Construction is expected to begin in 2016.
