Metrorail weekend service adjustments July 5-6 to allow for rebuilding

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of July 5-6 with service adjustments beginning at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning and continue through system close on Sunday.

Orange, Blue, Green and Yellow line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals. Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont with additional trains between Grosvenor and Silver Spring during daytime hours.

July 4th service information
On Friday, July 4th there is no scheduled rebuilding work. Metrorail will open 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. Trains will run on a Saturday schedule until about 2 p.m., and then gradually ramp up to near rush-hour service levels before and after the fireworks. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities. Metrobus will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
