Metrorail weekend service adjustments September 12-14 for rebuilding

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of September 12-14 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

Silver and Yellow line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals (Yellow Line trains will run between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq). Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes. Orange and Blue Line trains will operate every 24 minutes, and Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes with additional Red Line trains between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours.

Early Opening Sunday morning for the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon
Metrorail will open at 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 14 for customers traveling to the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon. The closest Metro stop to the start of the race is Smithsonian Station (Blue/Orange/Silver lines).

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.

Work Performed: Light pole installation and track joint elimination between NoMa-Gallaudet and Rhode Island Ave. On Saturday and Sunday, Metro will continue railcar testing and acceptance of the new fleet of 7000-series railcars between Twinbrook and Shady Grove.
