Metrorail weekend service adjustments October 3-5 for rebuilding
Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of October 3-5 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday.
Silver, Blue, Green and Yellow line trains will operate on regular weekend intervals. Orange Line trains will operate every 16 minutes, rather than every 12 minutes. Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes with additional trains between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours.
Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
Red Line
Trains every 8-15 minutes
Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:
- Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 15 minutes
- Between Grosvenor & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 8-10 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9AM-9PM only
Work Performed: Rail tie renewal between Twinbrook and Shady Grove, fence replacement and lighting upgrades between Rhode Island Avenue and NoMa-Gallaudet.
