Metro service information for Thanksgiving weekend


All rail lines free of track work over holiday weekend

Metro will take a short break from scheduled rebuilding over the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Thursday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 30.

On Thanksgiving Day, rail and bus service will operate on holiday schedules (see below for details). On Friday, Nov. 28, rail and bus service will operate on a regular weekday schedule with normal fare and parking rates in effect.

Regular weekend schedules will be in effect on the Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving.

Service information for Thanksgiving Day

  • Metrorail: Trains will run on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day with no scheduled track work.  The system will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight.  Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at Metro-operated facilities.
  • Metrobus: Bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day.  Customers should check bus timetables for details.
  • MetroAccess:  Paratransit service will operate during the same hours as Metrorail and Metrobus.  Subscription trips will be cancelled on Thanksgiving Day unless the MetroAccess customer specifically requests to travel on the holiday.

Traveling to/from Washington Dulles International Airport

  • Metrobus Route 5A provides direct service between Washington Dulles International Airport and L’Enfant Plaza and Rosslyn Metrorail stations.
  • The fare for Route 5A bus service is $7 per person ($3.50 for seniors and people with disabilities).

Traveling to/from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

  • For the benefit of holiday travelers, Metro will offer 80 additional trips to and from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on November 26, 29, 30, and December 19.
  • Travelers can reach the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport by riding Metro's Green Line to the Greenbelt Metrorail station and transferring to the B30 Metrobus.
  • The fare for Route B30 bus service is $7 per person ($3.50 for seniors and people with disabilities).
  • Combined with the regular schedule, these additional trips will provide Metrobus Route B30 service every 20 minutes between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on these four days.

  • Union Station is served by Metrorail's Red Line.

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is served by Metrorail's Blue and Yellow lines.
