Metro announces weekends largely free of track work for the holiday season (updated)

This release has been updated: Metro has modified the service plan for the Orange Line on Saturday, December 6, to further minimize customer inconvenience. Rather than running reduced service to/from the five stations at the far eastern end of the line, Metro will instead run Orange Line trains from end to end at 16-minute intervals. Regular Saturday service is every 12 minutes, so on average, Orange Line customers will encounter two minutes of additional wait time.

Whether you're traveling to shopping, visiting family or friends, or heading out of town, Metro will make getting around a bit easier this holiday season with very limited rebuilding work affecting train schedules between now and Christmas.

"Thanks to all of the intense rebuilding work that has happened up to this point, we are in a position where we can ease up on track work for a few weekends and let our customers enjoy the season," said Metro Deputy General Manager Rob Troup. "We are also mindful of the role Metro plays in supporting the regional economy, and it is gratifying to be in a position to support the business community with good service this holiday season."

Metrorail provides convenient access to many of the region's popular shopping destinations, including Old Town Alexandria, Downtown DC, Pentagon City, Largo Town Center, the Mall at Prince George's, Wheaton Mall, Springfield Mall, Tyson's Corner, Bethesda, Union Station, and more.

After the holidays, Metro will resume weekend rebuilding efforts to keep the system operating safely and reliably.
