MEDIA ADVISORY: Metro Transit Police to dedicate new police station & training facility to fallen officer
Metro will host a dedication ceremony and tour of the new Harry Davis, Jr. Metro Transit Police District II Police Station and Range Training Facility on Saturday, December 20, 2014.
The facility will be dedicated to the life and service of Officer Harry Davis, Jr., the first Metro Transit Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
Officer Davis was fatally wounded 21 years ago -- five days before Christmas on December 20, 1993 -- while investigating a suspicious vehicle near the Landover Metrorail station.
The new MTPD District II police station is located one quarter mile from the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station. The station is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification and will include an adjacent 33,000-square-foot range training facility – a first of its kind for the Department – featuring two separate firing ranges with twelve lanes each.
