Metrorail to open two hours early Saturday for Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

The Metrorail system will open two hours early, at 5 a.m., on Saturday, March 14, for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

Marathon participants should use Federal Triangle (Blue/Orange), Smithsonian (Blue/Orange) or Archives (Green/Yellow) stations to access the start line.

This weekend, 63 out of 91 Metrorail stations will have regular service; however due to scheduled rebuilding, customers should note the following service changes:

  • Green Line trains will operate every 16 minutes.
  • Blue Line trains will operate normally between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory and Silver Line trains will operate normally between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory; however, due to scheduled rebuilding, riders traveling to or from the five stations at the far eastern end of the Blue/Silver lines should allow additional time. The five affected stations are: Largo Town Center, Morgan Boulevard, Addison Road, Capitol Heights and Benning Road. At these stations, trains will arrive and depart about every 20 minutes.
  • Red, Orange and Yellow line trains will operate at normal weekend intervals. (Note: Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt Vernon Square.)

Travel Tips

  • Using a SmarTrip card is recommended. If using a paper farecard, please protect it from moisture during the race. Also, note that there is an additional $1 per trip charge ($2 for roundtrip) when using a paper farecard.
  • Please remember to load enough value on your farecard or SmarTrip in advance for your entire roundtrip to avoid lines after the event.

The two-hour Metrorail early opening is funded through an agreement with event organizers.
