Metro News Release

For immediate release: October 6, 2015

Metrorail to open at 5 a.m. Sunday, October 11, for Army Ten-Miler

Metrorail will open two hours early, at 5:00 a.m., on Sunday, October 11, for the Army Ten-Miler.

  • While the closest Metrorail station to the start of the race is Pentagon Station on the Blue and Yellow lines, riders are encouraged to use Pentagon City instead. Pentagon Station tends to get very crowded on race day with riders traveling to the start line. Some trains may bypass Pentagon Station due to crowding conditions.  (Pentagon City is a 0.7 mile walk to Pentagon.)
  • Please take note of service changes on the Orange & Silver lines.
  • Additional Blue Line trains will run between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory from 6 a.m. until 8:40 a.m., and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
  • Metro recommends using a SmarTrip ® card to speed your trip. SmarTrip ® cards can be purchased at any Metrorail station entrance for $10 ($2 for the card loaded with $8 in fare value). If using a paper farecard, a $1 per-trip surcharge applies. Participants should take steps to protect paper farecards from moisture.

Metrobus service

All Metrobus service that normally operates to/from the Pentagon will be diverted to Pentagon City until approximately 2:00 p.m.. Additional staff will be on hand at Pentagon City Station to assist bus customers.

The additional two hours of service is funded through an agreement with event organizers.
