Metro announces holiday service information


Metrorail system to remain open until 3 a.m. for New Year's

Metrorail will remain open until 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve (early New Year's Day) for the benefit of holiday revelers with free rides on Metro from midnight until system closing courtesy of Miller Lite®.

Below is a summary of Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess service during the holiday season.

Weekend before Christmas - December 18-20

Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals; Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes.

Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

Thursday, December 24 (Christmas Eve)
  • Regular weekday service. No track work. 
  • Metrorail system open 5 a.m. until midnight. Regular fares and parking rates in effect.
  • MetroAccess subscription trips cancelled
Friday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Metrorail & Metrobus operate on Sunday schedules. No track work.
  •  Metrorail system open 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. Off-peak fares in effect all day. Parking free.
  • MetroAccess subscription trips cancelled. 
  • Customer service will be closed.

Weekend of December 25-27

Metrorail service on all lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule with no scheduled track work.

New Year's Eve & New Year's Day

Thursday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)
  • Regular weekday service. No track work. Regular fares and parking rates in effect until midnight.
  • Metrorail system will remain open three hours later than normal (3 a.m.).  Last train times vary by station; add three hours to weekday last train times. To check last train times for any station, visit wmata.com/stations.
  • Free rail and bus service from midnight until end of service, sponsored by Miller Lite.
  • MetroAccess subscription trips cancelled. 
Friday, January 1 (New Year's Day)
  • Metrorail & Metrobus operate on Sunday schedule.
  • Metrorail system open 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. 
  • Off-peak fares in effect all day. Parking free.
  • MetroAccess subscription trips cancelled. 
  • Customer service will be closed.
 

Weekend of January 1-3, 2016

Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals; Red Line trains will operate every 12-24 minutes.

All six-car trains December 21 through January 3

Between December 21, 2015 and January 3, 2016, most Metrorail trains will operate with six cars due to lighter ridership. (Note: Metro 7000-series trains, which are all 8-cars long, will continue in service during this period.)
