Free Metro rides, extended hours on New Year's Eve

Miller Lite Free Rides® available all Metro routes starting at midnight January 1

Miller Lite Free Rides® will be available on all six Metrorail lines and all Metrobus routes beginning at midnight on Friday, January 1, until the Metro system closes at 3 a.m. On the rail system, customers must use their SmarTrip card or a paper farecard to enter and exit the system but will not be charged for the trip. On Metrobus, riders can simply show their SmarTrip card to board the bus at no charge.

As part of a national public service initiative to promote responsible commuting, Miller Lite has teamed with transit authorities in Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Dallas to encourage responsible drinking and travel alternatives by offering more than 2.4 million safe rides during similar free-ride promotions in past years. Miller Lite will fully fund the fares of all Metro riders.

Metro encourages those choosing Metro this New Year’s Eve to "ride responsibly" and be aware of potential hazards and to use particular care on escalators and train platforms. When riding escalators, riders are encouraged to always hold on to the handrails. On train platforms, always stand a safe distance from the platform edge. Any rider who is unable to stand or maintain balance should consider alternate means of transportation. Additional Metro Transit Police officers will be on duty on New Year's Eve to help ensure the safest trip possible for all riders.
