Metro announces bus service changes for Tuesday in advance of expected winter weather

Metro is fully deploying resources to respond to winter weather that could impact travel conditions tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Based on current forecasts, Metro is advising customers of bus service changes on Tuesday.

Metrobus

  • Metrobus will begin Tuesday on a Moderate Snow Plan which, in the interest of safety, keeps buses from operating on hilly terrain, narrow streets and other problem areas. Some bus routes do not operate under the Moderate Snow Plan, while others run with detours in effect. CLICK FOR DETAILS AND MAPS
  • In addition, Metrobus school trips in the District of Columbia (service to DC Public Schools and Public Charter Schools) will operate if schools are open.
  • Additional service changes may be necessary based on weather and road conditions. All changes will be announced via MetroAlerts and posted to the Bus Alerts page at wmata.com.

MetroAccess

  • MetroAccess expects to provide service as planned on Tuesday.
  • Some trips may experience delays due to weather-related road conditions.

Metrorail

  • Metrorail expects to operate on a regular weekday schedule on all lines. The rail system will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight.
  • Metro personnel will begin deicing operations during the overnight hours, and additional crews will be on duty to clear station platforms, sidewalks, parking lots and bus loops.
  • Customers are encouraged to check wmata.com before starting their trip or sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updated service information by email or text message.

Metro will continue to monitor conditions and restore normal bus service as it is safe to do so. Any changes to this service plan will be announced via news release, on wmata.com, via MetroAlerts and through Metro's social media channels.
