Orange, Blue and Silver line service update - Monday until 9 p.m.

UPDATED - March 14 at 5:45 p.m.

Metro is advising customers of service changes for the remainder of the day on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines following a cable fire outside McPherson Square this morning. Repairs will be completed after 9 p.m. today with the goal of restoring normal service tomorrow morning.

Due to the potential for delays, Orange, Blue and Silver line customers are encouraged to consider alternate travel options.

Metrorail service plans between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. are as follows:

  • Blue and Orange line trains will share a single track between Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle during the afternoon and evening hours. This will result in delays in both directions.
  • Customers should consider travel alternates if possible, such as the Yellow Line between DC and Virginia or Metrobus routes if available.
  • Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers should use Orange Line trains to complete their trip between Virginia and DC.

Metrorail service plans from 9 p.m. until system closing are as follows:

  • Beginning at 9 p.m., all Metrorail service will be suspended in both directions between Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle to allow for repairs.
  • Metro will provide shuttle bus service between the affected stations. Please allow additional travel time.

Travel Tips

  • Due to expected delays, all customers traveling on the Orange, Blue or Silver lines should consider alternate travel options or allow extra travel time.
  • Customers are advised to listen for station announcements, follow @metrorailinfo or sign up for MetroAlerts  for updates.
  • Metrobus may be an option for some customers. To check, plan a trip using the Trip Planner and select “bus only.”
  • Customers who normally travel via the Blue Line to Virginia stations south of Pentagon should consider using the Yellow Line.
