Metro Accessibility Advisory Committee seeks new members

Metro’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is accepting applications from senior citizens and riders with disabilities to join the volunteer group. The 20-member committee meets monthly to address the needs of senior citizens and people with disabilities and is committed to enhancing the travel experience on Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess.

Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia are each represented by six members and there are two additional members that serve at-large.  Positions are available for residents of the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Fairfax City, City of Falls Church and City of Alexandria.

To qualify for membership, prospective members must be riders of Metrobus, Metrorail and/or MetroAccess. Members of the AAC may not be Metro employees, contractors or elected officials. All positions are unpaid.   Metro’s Board of Directors will make the final selection of candidates from a collection of candidates that represent a cross-section of customers who are disabled and/or seniors and reflect a broad representation of people from different geographical locations in the Metro service area.

Positions are limited and not all applicants will be selected. However, all applications will be retained for two years from the date submitted for future consideration. Previous applicants of the 2014/2015 recruitment will also be considered.

Applications can be found online on Metro's website.

Candidates also may call Metro’s Department of Access Services, Office of ADA Policy and Planning at 202-962-1100 to request an application form.  Completed applications may be submitted online, mailed to the WMATA Accessibility Advisory Committee at 600 Fifth Street, NW, Room 7A-01, Washington, DC 20001, or faxed to 202-962-1274. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016.
