Deanwood Escalator Replacement

Advisory Effective: 11/13/23 - 6/30/24

On November 13, 2023, Metro will begin a major capital project replacing the two platform escalators at Deanwood Station. The two escalators will be replaced with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable. The escalators are being installed as part of an ongoing Escalator Replacement Project to replace 130 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028.

How will this work affect my trip?

Escalators at Deanwood Station will be replaced one at a time. During construction, the escalator not being replaced will be available as a two-way staircase.

The entrances, elevator on Minnesota Avenue, and the elevator from the mezzanine to the platform will remain open throughout construction.

How long will the project take?

The replacement of both escalators is expected to take approximately eight months for site preparation, demolition, construction, installation, and testing.
