Metropolitan Branch Trail Construction Update

The new MBT Fort Totten trail extension will run next to the CSX Railroad and WMATA Red Line tracks along John McCormack Drive Northeast. Part of the trail will be situated on National Park Service (NPS) property in Northeast, Washington, D.C. The trail will begin about 1,500 feet south of Bates Road Northeast on the east side of John McCormack Drive, and extend north along the WMATA and CSX tracks to the Fort Totten Metro Station tie-in with First Place Northeast.

CURRENT ACTIVITY:

  • 1st Place NE and Galloway Street NE will remain open to vehicular traffic while construction continues.
  • Sidewalk on the east side of 1st Place NE and the crosswalk in front of the Fort Totten Metrorail Station entrance will remain open and available for public use.
  • Pedestrian and bicyclist access between the Fort Totten Metrorail Station and Gallatin Street NE will be maintained utilizing newly constructed trail.
