Advisory Effective: 7/28/25 - 9/30/26

South Mezzanine Project

Metro is building a new mezzanine at the south end of the station, to connect Metro to the future Purple Line Bethesda Station. The mezzanine will not be available until Purple Line opens in 2027.

In Summer 2025, barricades will be installed at the south end of the station to provide a safe work zone for customers. The station will remain open, and train service will not be impacted. An accessible pathway will be maintained on either side of the barricade for customers to board and exit the train.

The barricades will provide a safe work zone for crews to assess site conditions, demolish the existing platform, and begin structural foundation work. Future impacts at the station will be communicated when more information is available.

Customer Impacts

  • Trains may temporarily hold outside the station for several minutes. Minor delays on the Red Line are possible.
  • Construction will occur 24/7 behind the barricades, but the full length of the platform will be accessible for on and off boarding of the train.
  • Customers may hear loud noises during this time, with “hot work” only permitted during non-revenue hours.
  • Temporary lighting is being installed on the barricades for additional security.
  • For your safety, follow all posted signs and directions from onsite safety personnel.
