Outside normal business hours and for serious breaking news matters only (like fatalities and major service disruptions) and requesting permission to enter and film in a station use this online form to alert an on-call spokesperson.

If you have a routine media request, please email MetroNews@wmata.com during business hours.

Public Meetings & Media Availability

Metro's Board of Directors meetings are open to the public and press. The Board meets at our L'Enfant Plaza headquarters, 300 7th St. S.W., generally every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month with a few exceptions. Agendas and presentations are posted on Mondays before meetings.

You may film and/or record these meetings, and we'll be happy to assist you with placement of cameras and microphones as needed. The meetings are also live-streamed and archived on Metro's YouTube page

We usually have media availability after each meeting with the General Manager and Board Chair.

News Media Access to Stations

News media should contact Media Relations at MetroNews@wmata.com for permission to film in stations. Please include the station and your time of arrival and departure. If it is outside normal business hours, please submit the request via this online form.

Metro's primary role is to move people, so our customers come first. We will work with media to determine a time and place with minimal impact to the public.

Lights, cables and tripods are not allowed in stations for safety reasons. Filming on moving trains and buses is not permitted for safety reasons.

Student requests

Due to the high number of requests, media relations does not provide responses for class projects. Metro will make every effort to fulfill media requests for stories in college newspapers and other student media outlets.
