Take Advantage of the Passenger Allocation System

If you are a SmartBenefits® participant and you plan to use a vanpool or other transit provider that does not accept SmarTrip® cards, then click on the appropriate link below and follow the instructions to create and set-up your passenger allocation account.

Once you set-up your allocation, your transit provider will automatically be paid each month. There is nothing else for you to do unless you need to change your allocation. You have until 11:59pm ET on the 21st of each month (the 16th for CommuterDirect.com) to change your SmartBenefits® passenger allocation for the upcoming month's benefits.


Vanpool Passengers and VRE Mobile Ticket Users

Step 1 Read the SmartBenefits® Allocation and Transit Pass Guide PDF Icon.

Step 2 Allocate benefits to any vanpool listed in the Passenger Allocation System using your SmartBenefits® Passenger Allocation Account. If you use VRE's mobile ticketing application, then allocate your benefits to VRE Mobile Ticketing (not CommuterDirect.com).

Step 2 Allocate benefits to CommuterDirect.com using your SmartBenefits® Passenger Allocation Account.

Step 3 Set up a mail order account with CommuterDirect.com.
