Pay less per ride with an unlimited pass that can be used on Metrorail and Metrobus.
Looking to save money on your daily commute? In town for a visit and looking for an affordable way to get around? Metro offers a range of daily, weekly, and monthly unlimited passes to fit your needs.
Passes can be purchased in the SmarTrip app and then added to Apple Wallet or can be added to your plastic SmarTrip Card online, at Fare Vending Machines located in Metrorail stations, and at the Commuter stores or retail outlets.
Metrorail and Metrobus Unlimited Passes
- Provide unlimited Metrorail and Metrobus travel
- Cover first $2.25 of fare on Metrobus Express Routes
- Do not cover bus fare on regional transit partners; add a 7-Day Regional Bus Pass to enjoy the convenience of unlimited rides on ART, CUE, DASH, Fairfax Connector, TheBus, or Ride On
- SmartBenefits Transit Pass Benefits can be used to pay for passes, except 1-Day Unlimited Pass

1-, 3-, and 7-Day Unlimited Passes
- Pass is activated the first time SmarTrip is tapped at a fare gate or bus farebox
- Pass expires at the end of the last consecutive operating day
7-Day Short Trip Pass
- Pass is activated the first time it is used
- Pass expires at the end of the seventh consecutive operating day
- Covers unlimited trips on Metrorail up to a fare of $4.50 - the difference is deducted from Stored Value funds or SmartBenefits on your SmarTrip Card
- Note: Stored Value is cash you have loaded to your SmarTrip Card that can be applied to rides or parking at Metro facilities.
- Covers the first $2.25 of fare on Metrobus Express Routes
Monthly Unlimited Passes
- Passes are available for a number of fare levels; use the Monthly Unlimited Pass Calculator to find the right fare level for you
- Passes are good for one calendar month based on date of purchase:
- Before the 15th day of the month, pass starts when the SmarTrip Card is tapped at a rail station or on a bus and is valid for the remainder of the current month.
- After the 15th day of the month, pass is valid for the following month, starting on the first day of the month.
- Covers the first $2.25 of fare on Metrobus Express Routes
Metrobus Pass
7-Day Regional Bus Pass
- Pass is activated the first time it is used
- Valid for seven (7) consecutive days of unlimited rides (up to $2.25) on Metrobus, ART, CUE, DASH, Fairfax Connector, TheBus, and Ride On
- A $2.25 credit is applied toward Metrobus Express Routes - the difference is deducted from Stored Value funds or SmartBenefits on your SmarTrip Card
- Can be paid for with SmartBenefits Transit Pass Benefits
Transit Link Cards
- Works like a monthly pass on MARC, VRE, or MTA Commuter Buses
- Unlimited Metrorail rides from the first day to the last day of the month
- Unlimited regular Metrobus rides for a full month - additional charge applied for express buses
- Transit Link Cards can be purchased at Commuter Direct; the commuter stores at Ballston, Rosslyn, Crystal City, and Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center; and the MARC Odenton train station - Transit Link Cards cannot be purchased at the Metro Sales Office
