What is the Capital Bikeshare?

Capital Bikeshare (operated by Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC.) is metro DC's public bikeshare system, with more than 5,000 bikes available at 650 stations across seven jurisdictions: Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Montgomery County, MD; Prince George's County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; and the City of Falls Church, VA. Capital Bikeshare provides residents and visitors with a convenient, fun and affordable transportation option for getting from Point A to Point B.

What is the promotional offer?

After you have signed up for the promotional offer, and upon confirmation of your eligibility, Metro will securely share the phone number you provided with Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC. ("Lyft") to issue the promotional credit for ten free 45-minute classic bike rides to the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft account linked to the phone number you provided, to be used within 30 days after receipt of communication from Capital Bikeshare regarding offer activation.

The promotional offer only applies to 45-minute classic Capital Bikeshare rides; overage, e-bikes, taxes, and out of hub fees will be charged separately.

The promotional offer does not provide additional benefits to Capital Bikeshare users with annual membership.

What determines eligibility for the promotional offer?

You must have mobile SmarTrip® on your iPhone or Android phone.

You must live in one of the seven member jurisdictions: Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Montgomery County, MD; Prince George's County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; and the City of Falls Church, VA.

How long does it take for me to receive the promotional offer after I sign up?

Your Capital Bikeshare or Lyft app/account linked to the phone number which you provided to WMATA at sign-up for the promotional offer will be credited within five (5) business days of completing sign-up.

I am getting an error message when I attempt to validate my eligibility for the offer. Why is that?

In signing up for the offer, WMATA verifies that you meet all eligibility conditions. If you are receiving an error message while attempting to sign up, then you do not meet one of the eligibility conditions. The exact error message will indicate which of the criteria you do not meet.

What will you do with my data?

At Metro, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personally identifiable information. We will share only the phone number you provided to sign up for the promotional offer with Lyft via a secured file transfer during the promotional period to facilitate distribution of ride credits linked to that phone number.
