First week construction progress

Published: Thursday, May 30, 2019

In the first days of the Platform Improvement Project, Metro employees and contractors have gone straight to work.  With pre-construction staging completed before the shutdown started, they have been able to move in heavy equipment, begin demolition of station platforms, and immediately start to repair track infrastructure.

The cranes, excavators, highrail trucks and jackhammers are a sight to see at Braddock Road Station where crews are breaking apart old platform tile and removing the concrete platform edge.

In addition, Metro's track and structures team is taking advantage of the service outage to remove old tracks, pour concrete for new grout pads, and install new rail.  These photos show work underway outside Huntington Station.
